Royal Christening: Prince William, Kate and Prince George Pose for Official Portrait

The joy of succession.

On Thursday, the Palace released four official portraits showcasing the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their son, Prince George, taken after the young royal was christened on Wednesday.

In one of the historic photographs taken by celebrity photographer Jason Bell Queen Elizabeth sits with three generations of heirs – the Queen, 87, poses with son Prince Charles, 64, grandson Prince William, 31, and 3-month-old Prince George. The image pays homage to a photograph taken in 1894 of Queen Victoria with her four living immediate heirs at the christening of then Prince Edward Albert of York.

Taken in the Morning Room at Clarence House immediately following Prince George's baptism Wednesday, the infant takes center stage throughout the series.

One photograph shows George with his great-grandparents the Queen and Prince Philip, his grandparents Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, his uncle Prince Harry, aunt Pippa Middleton, uncle James Middleton, and grandparents Carole and Michael Middleton. Another shows him with his parents, Prince William and Kate, and another with members of the Windsor family.

"Everyone was in a very jolly and happy mood," a royal source tells PEOPLE. As for infant who took center stage, the source adds, "he was a happy little bundle of joy."

Talking of the christening, Kate told a guest at the 100 Women in Hedge Funds Philanthropic Initiatives gala dinner, held Thursday night in London's Kensington Palace State Apartments, that George "was such a good boy actually. We're very lucky, he's not always like that."

Inside the Morning Room, the decor is just as historic as the portraits. The group posed on a sofa that is part of a gilt wood seat furniture by Thomas Chippendale (dating from about 1773), which is thought to have been commissioned by George III's brother, the Duke of Gloucester. Sitting on a cabinet on the left of the group is a bronze bust of Princess Elizabeth made by William Lamb in 1933. And above the cabinet is an oil painting titled "Their Royal Highnesses and the Princess Elizabeth and the Princess Margaret in Windsor Great Park" created by Frederic Whiting in 1945.

Two additional photographs are present within the images – one features Prince Charles and Harry in a South African village in 1997.
