8 Makeup Mistakes that Make You Look Older

Certain techniques in your makeup routine can make you look older and are considered serious makeup mistakes. Learn how to avoid the makeup mistakes that make you look older!

The golden rules of beauty change, but there are some guidelines that won't let you fail if you are still a freshmen in the makeup artistry. The basic principles when choosing a makeup is to look for age appropriate techniques and colors. It's better to look younger as long as it's possible. That's why it is advisable to avoid the top makeup mistakes that make your look older.

Here are some of the most common beauty faux pas, that some might commit to add a few years to their age. However achieving the proper result might not be as easy as it may seem. It is better to limit our tendencies to look older and keep our look fresh and neat.

1. Too much foundation
The young skin is usually neat and fine, that's why hiding it under a thick layer of foundation is totally unnecessary. The majority seems to use this trick in order to make sure that all the pores, pimples, scars and other flaws are camouflaged. Instead of using the layering technique it is recommended to purchase a high quality foundation or a tinted moisturizer. These can have the same effect, more they will absorb the same amount of oil excess after the application. Makeup artists swear on the 'less is more' principle when creating the base.An extremely covered skin might look less attractive than a fresh and young complexion.

2. Too much concealer under the eyes
Dark circles under the eyes are a bane of beauty for both men and women. Getting more sleep and adjusting your diet can help make these look better, but oftentimes women rely on concealer to help their eyes look more youthful. But as you get older, the skin under the eye becomes thinner. This means you need to apply light amounts of concealer and only where there are darker areas. Otherwise the thick cover-up will not look good at all.

3. Foundation too light
The base of the makeup is just as vital as the final touch. Indeed to look fab it is worth opting for the foundation that will complement our natural skin tone. Consequently a too light one will only accentuate the lines, wrinkles and other flaws and you'll look as pale as a ghost. Even if you are the proud owner of porcelain skin you might consider using warmer shades. The best tips when purchasing a foundation is to choose the one that is with 1-2 shades darker than the color of our skin.

4. Too much powder
Powder has a crucial function in makeup especially when it comes to oily skin types, however professionals advise us to use it with measure. Apply it only to the chin and the nose for a matte finish. On the other hand stay away of applying it around the eyes as it can give you some wrinkles, even if you don't have any. It will only emphasize the tiniest lines and wrinkles that seem to hide under a natural looking makeup. Don't add extra years to your age, don;t worry you'll get there one day.

5. Mascara on the lower lashes
Unless your going for a doll or other alternative makeup, leave your lower lashes bare. Besides giving an artificial look to your eyes, it will also draw the attention to crow's feet, puffy or tired eyes, and any tiny flaw you might have in this area. In order to maintain your look refined don't apply mascara to your lower lashes. Defining the top eyelashes with classy black mascara and defining them is enough to top your look.

6. Shinier eye shadow
Shiny and shimmering eye shadow might look great and be popular but it’s going to show signs of aging more than other forms of eye shadow. The area where you apply eye shadow lacks oil glands and that means the eyes are the area to show aging first. Creases and cracks in the skin will be exemplified with the use of shinier eye shadow as opposed to matte colors.

7. Poor hairstyle choice
Your hairstyle can be a huge boost to your beauty, or an unfortunate detriment to your beauty. As you get older and want to continue looking young, a long and flat hair style will not work as well as it did in your youth. Long, flat hair exaggerates the look of a droopier, older face without bringing out the good in your face.

8. Hair abuse
When you get your hair colored or have it go through curlers or other processes, you’re doing damage to it over time. This is especially true when it is done on a weekly basis. Fried and dried hair looks as far from youthful and beautiful as a toad is from handsome. Cut back on the hair salon trips and dye jobs, you’ll save money and your hair.
